According to a recent study, starting the day with walnuts can improve memory, concentration, and overall mental performance.

Researchers at the University of Reading have discovered that eating walnuts for breakfast can improve a person’s mental abilities throughout the day.

The study involved 32 healthy people aged 18 to 30.


When the study participants ate a breakfast that included 50 grams of walnuts, muesli and yoghurt, they showed significant improvements in their memory and reaction time, unlike the other participants.


This is the first study of its kind to examine the immediate effects of walnuts on young people over a single day.


Effects after eating walnuts:


During the study, participants took part in various mental tests for six hours after breakfast, while researchers monitored their brain activity.


The results showed that those who ate walnuts demonstrated better neural efficiency (brain performance) during mentally demanding tasks.


Blood tests also showed positive changes, especially improvements in glucose and fatty acid levels, both of which are considered important for brain health.


Why are walnuts great for brain health?


According to experts, the unique nutritional composition of walnuts makes them beneficial for the brain.


Their omega-3 alpha-linolenic acid, antioxidant-rich polyphenols, and plant-derived protein may combine to support mental performance and long-term brain health. Experts say more research is needed to fully understand the biological factors behind this.
