The investigation into the fresh death threat to Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has taken a new turn. Police say the accused threatened the superstar to increase the number of followers on his social media account.

According to the Times of India, a man named Mayank Pandya was arrested on Monday by the police, hours after the threat was sent in a WhatsApp message to the Mumbai Traffic Police helpline.

During the investigation, the accused has allegedly confessed that he did this to increase his social media following.

25-year-old Mayank Pandya admitted that he wanted to increase his Instagram following and hence planned to imitate the death threats made by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

According to news agency PTI, the police said that Mayank Pandya, who hails from Vadodara, Gujarat, has been released due to his mental health.

On Monday, a threatening message was sent to the Mumbai Transport Department's WhatsApp number, which said that "his (Salman Khan) house in Galaxy Apartments will be broken into and he will be killed and his car will be blown up with a bomb."

Salman Khan has received threats from the Bishnoi gang before, while last year his house in Bandra was also fired upon.

The actor has been facing death threats for the past few years, which is said to be due to blackbuck hunting, and the actor also faced a case in 1998 due to this.

The blackbuck is considered sacred by the Bishnoi community religiously.

In a threat received last year in 2024, Salman Khan was asked to visit a temple and publicly apologize for the blackbuck poaching or pay Rs 5 crore.

Similarly, on October 30, the actor was once again threatened by a person and demanded Rs 2 crore.

Last year, an attempt was also made to enter his farmhouse using a fake identity.

Similarly, in 2023, an email allegedly sent by gangster Goldie Brar was also received, while in 2022, his father received a threatening letter from a park bench near his house.

After this, the actor also obtained a license to possess weapons.

According to the report, the actor's security has been tightened after the latest threat.

Recently, Salman Khan had said in a conversation with reporters in Mumbai that 'The age that God has written, that is all it will last.'
