Milan Design Week in Italy, where the Arab world is prominent

Many designers and institutions from the Arab world are participating in the world's largest indoor furniture designers' exhibition held in Milan, Italy. (a2zgenius.blogspot.com)

According to Arab News, this unique exhibition, called 'Milan Design Week', will run from April 7 to April 13.

The exhibition praised the role of bamboo in the history of Gucci, which included special creations from modern designers from around the world.

Due to the shortage of raw materials in Italy after World War II, Gucci founder Guccio Gucci used light and strong bamboo as an alternative to handbag handles. Florentine artisans also produced excellent bags with the help of bamboo, of which the 'Gucci Bumbo 1947' is famous.
Among those who demonstrated craftsmanship with the help of bamboo was Palestinian architect and artist Dima Saroji, whose bamboo baskets highlight the traditional basketry of the Middle East.

These creations are a beautiful expression of beauty and strength with bamboo and delicate glass made by the Tawam family in Palestine.

Palestinian artist Dima Saroji, who is present at the exhibition, said, The history of basket making is very ancient and over time I have come to love the creative ideas of these anonymous craftsmen.

I have acquired some of the antique baskets online or by participating in auctions that were available in different countries.

Saroji said that the combination of glass and bamboo baskets took place in my studio, where these baskets were combined with delicate glass made with the Tawam family, Palestinian glassmakers, and molded into self-made shapes.

Each of my creations tells the story of a different region of the world and is a memorable moment to celebrate joy, tradition and Palestinian culture in today’s world.
